David Schonbrun has over 25 years as an insurance businessman and attorney.
I am an in-house legal executive with extensive experience managing legal and compliance departments and teams at insurance companies. I have thrived at established companies and startup ventures and business units as a chief legal, regulatory, and compliance officer and as an insurance business lawyer who addressed the myriad legal issues that arose pertaining to and affecting the companies. Over the years, I have developed varying levels of expertise in corporate, regulatory, contracts and transactional, employment, and trademark law, litigation management, and government affairs. Moreover, I have developed close working relationships with senior regulators at state insurance departments across the country, the US Treasury Department’s Federal Insurance Office, the Bermuda Monetary Authority, and the Guernsey Financial Services Commission, as well as with leading financial services industry professionals and representatives of insurance trade associations.
As an experienced businessman and lawyer, I value being a leading and contributing member of a productive team. Although legal and regulatory issues regularly pose obstacles to business plans, I seek creative solutions and workarounds that enable, rather than frustrate, my business colleagues, and comply with the law.
Corporate legal executive with extensive experience in the insurance and fintech industries and expertise in corporate, regulatory, contracts and M&A, employment, and IP law, litigation management, and government affairs and an experienced manager of in-house Legal department teams at companies within the insurance industry. I have thrived at established companies, startup ventures and business units, and in private practice. During a hiatus between my most recent and next in-house senior legal positions, I formed Schonbrun Risk & Regulatory Solutions LLC, a consultancy that focuses on the commercial, risk, and regulatory needs of insurance and reinsurance businesses and professionals. Over the years, I developed varying levels of expertise in corporate, regulatory, contracts and transactional, employment, and trademark law, litigation management, and government affairs, as well as close working relationships with senior officials within key state insurance departments, the US Treasury Department’s Federal Insurance Office, the Bermuda Monetary Authority, and the Guernsey Financial Services Commission.
